HAWKS DROP 3 – 2 OT DECISION in HOME DEBUT

The St. James Canucks rode into the Coy with two wins under their belt and were intent on making it three and spoiling  the Hawk’s home opener. They were successful on both counts. The Canucks defeated the Hawks 3 – 2 in OT.
The first period was scoreless and both clubs scored 4 goals in the second. The Canucks jumped out to a two goal lead by the 9:31 mark and the Hawks pumped in two of their own off the sticks of Mike Lorange and Shane Kustra-Nelson with assists going to Dylan Zeke, Shawn Pachet and Ryan Hutton. The clubs would head to the second intermission all even at 2 goals.
Neither team would rip the twine in the third keeping the score knotted at two apiece after regulation time. Both teams had opportunities in OT but it was Mitchell Lockhart that would end this one scoring at the 2:41 mark.
The Hawks took 4 of the 7 penalties that were assessed in the game and neither club could connect on the PP. Both goalies provided their teammates an opportunity to win this one. Ben Thorlakson was the busier of the two stopping 32 of the 35 shots he faced and Tyler Wiess was credited with the win blocking 26 of the 28 shots directed his way.
Hopefully a few lessons will be learned because on Friday, it is off to Southdale and a game with the Riels, who always play your Hawks tough.
