Hawks survive Twister

Jan 31 vs Pembina Valley

What a way to end the month of January! The League’s best road team, the Pembina Valley Twisters, paying a visit to the Eric Coy for a game with your Hawks that had serious second place implications on the line. The hype surrounding this game, as it usually does for an encounter between these two, actually came to fruition. A big and boisterous crowd were well entertained. They had the old rink rocking!
Michael Lorange would open the scoring at 9:38 of the first period and the Twisters would tie it up 4 minutes later. Tyler Morwick would score a pair of goals 21 seconds apart to give the Hawks a two goal cushion but the Twisters would have an answer less than a minute later to send the two clubs to the dressing room with your Hawks nursing a one goal advantage. Shawn Pachet would restore the Hawks two goal cushion with the eventual winner with only a minute left in the second period. In the third, the Twisters would pull their goalie with 3 minutes left to play in favour of an extra attacker and would be rewarded with a goal with two minutes remaining to once again make it a one goal game. Twisters were relentless in their fore check but a race for a loose puck would result in Dylan Zeke potting an empty netter to seal the deal for the Hawks with 12 ticks left on the clock to make it a 5 – 3 final.
Recording assists on the night would be Cale Timlick, Cody Groen, Ryan Hutton with a pair, Cory Yeroschak, James Bergal, Shane Kustra-Nelson and Tyson Bannatyne. Ben Thorlakson was credited with stopping 32 of the 35 shots directed his way and the Hawks responded by firing 35 pucks at the Twister net. Both teams were 0 for 2 on the PP and 2 for 2 on the PK. Can’t make it more even than that!
Up next on the agenda is a Friday, Feb. 5th trip to Raiderville and a game with the red hot, first place Raiders. Should be a dandy! Action begins at 7:30 p.m. See you there!
