Twins upset hawks in OT

It was one of those games that by glancing at the MM standings, you would have thought it wouldn’t have been much of a gamble to bet the farm on predicting the outcome.  Guess what?  You would have woke up this morning a very poor person.  Sixty-six shots in a game of hockey usually gives you a victory but that wasn’t the case last night at the Century Arena in Ft. Garry.  One might think that by taking that many shots, they dominated the game, which at times they did.  But for the ones that actually attended the game, the Hawks didn’t muster up their “A” game.  Hard to believe but there were numerous other shots that missed the net, their passing wasn’t crisp and their intensity was lacking.  It has been said on many occasions that with the parity in the League, a team will not be successful without bringing it each and every night, and that statement was on full display last evening.
The Twins opened the scoring at the 12 minute mark of the second period and less than 2 minutes later Alex Hollyoake would tie it up.  Two minutes later, the Twins would restore their one goal lead and at the end of two periods, it was 2 – 1 for the Twins.  With their goalie pulled and only 89 ticks left on the clock, Cole Benediktson would score to send the game into OT.  A questionable penalty would put the Twins on the PP and they would capitalize on the four on three, sending the Hawks home on the short end of a 3 – 2 game.
James Bergal chipped in two assists and singles went to Tyson Bannatyne and Michael Lorange. Luke Ushakas took the hard luck loss between the pipes stopping 34 of the 37 shots the Twins directed his way.  Hawks were 0 for 2 on the PP and 2 for 3 on the PK.
Big weekend on the horizon for your Hawks. Friday they visit the Civic Centre for a contest against the hard charging Canucks and on Sunday, a Twister from Pembina Valley blows into the Coy.  Both games are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. start times.
