2020/21 Season Cancellation

It is with sadness that we have to announce that the remainder of the MMJHL season has been cancelled. Over the last couple of months the league has tried to put together different scenarios in which we would be able to get back on the ice but, after all the planning it became apparent that there were too many variables to ensure the safety of our players, the staff, and their families.

This year the Charleswood Hawks were hoping to have a great season for all our graduating players according to Head Coach Kyle Nixon.

Patrick Wiens – Patrick was expected to carry the bulk of the workload this season.  He has been an amazing teammate for the past two seasons and pushed for being one of the best goalies in Hawks history playing behind Ryan Hall.  As a 21 year old Patrick was poised to lead the Hawks this season providing stability in goal.  It is unfortunate he didn’t get the chance to prove himself as a number 1 starter and will be missed next winter.

Mitch Justl – The captain of the Hawks will leave huge shoes to fill next winter.  Mitch has been the constant defensive force every year of his career and missing out on his opportunity to lead this team is extremely disappointing.  Nobody has represented the Hawks with more class on and off the ice.

Sean Robinson – Sean was looking to finish his MMJHL career by really stepping into a heavy offensive role.  His leadership and team first mentality would have been a great asset this season and will be missed next winter.

Matt Lawrence – Matt was a part of the Hawks leadership group this year and was expected to lead on the ice in every situation, as well as, off the ice setting a positive example for his teammates.  Matt will leave a hole that won’t easily be filled.

Max Fisher – Max came to camp committed and motivated to have his best year as a Hawk.  He excelled in camp and in early season games.  His work ethic was never questioned and it’s too bad for the Hawks and Max this season’s potential will be left as a question mark.

Thomas Hansell – Thomas was another player who was selected as a part of the leadership group for the 2020/21 seasons.  His energy and excitement for the game was infectious amongst his teammates.  Thomas was hoping to lead offensively and contribute to a successful final year.  The Hawks will miss him next season.

Sam Maxwell – Sam made an immediate impact in the lineup every game he was in.  His size and poise was always on display, and he was looked at as a game changing player for the Hawks.  Sam would have been a top 21 year old player for the Hawks this season.

I would personally like to thanks Kyle for all his hard work. Kyle was always at the rink early, getting prepared for either practices or games, meeting with the leadership group, and either the forwards or defence ensuring everyone knew their roles.

To Adam, thank you for taking on a new role this year and all the advice you have provided me. You clearly have a passion and love for the Charleswood Hawks.

Also a big shout out to Jordan and Hunter our new assistant coaches who joined our team this year, so sorry you didn’t get the chance to finish this. Carter, our Equipment Manager who worked tirelessly behind the scenes. And finally to Cee Jay and Kailyn, our trainers thank you so much.

To the board of directors, thank you for helping us make the Charleswood Hawks what they are.

Sincerely,
Tim Scharer
