The Fish Report – Game 3

Transcona 3
Hawks 2

This one stung and it should.

We came out flying and created numerous opportunities from our hard work.

McDonald (wearing 11, not 27) got us on the board on a lovely pass from Hansell (21) 3 1/2 minutes in and it inspired the rest of the troops and we looked in control for the remainder of the first and most of the second period.

Wiens was barring the door and Transcona’s keeper was standing on his head to keep us from adding to our lead.

Then the tide changed. We stopped pursuing the puck and Transcona popped in two late in the second.

We came out with a good push as Fisher (12) rapped in a rebound from a Lawrence (15) shot and we were tied at two, 4:20 into the third. Rather than be inspired and hungry, we seemed to fall back on our heels and for seven or eight minutes through the middle of the third, we lost puck battles continually and let them have their way with us. It was to be our undoing and with less than five minutes remaining we found ourselves on the wrong end of a three-on-one and our fate was sealed.

The cohesion and effort we showed early on this game were how we can play and how we must play in order to dominate our opponents. Even though we’re only three games into the season we have shown moments of great pace, finesse and desire. These efforts must continue. Early on this game we looked in mid-season form but lost focus which was taken advantage of.

Let’s put this loss down to a blip in path and put it behind us. As President and GM Tim said, ‘I’m from Transcona…I hate losing to Transcona.’

Regroup, refocus and play with the jump we know we can muster.

Get back to .500 Sunday afternoon and start rattling the league’s cage and show our opponents that we’re a rolling wave that won’t be stopped.
