Final 2-1 St. James
A bounce, a bounce, my Kingdom for a bounce.
Lady Luck would not allow us a bounce tonight. She watched us dominate face-offs, shots on goal and puck possession. We out-chanced the Canucks all night long.
Opperman was a constant thorn in the Canucks’ side. Robinson looked poised to have his second two-goal game in a row. Sam Maxwell used his strength and speed to give him a heaping handful of chances around the net.
Two blips on the radar were our undoing. Canucks scored with 11 seconds remaining in the first and 7 seconds remaining in the second. Most teams would be ‘sunk’ by such fate. We were not.
We spent the third period in St. James’s end. They looked resigned to ‘hope and prevent-defence.’ Time counted down on us…Joben Smith’s seventh shot-on-goal of the night squeezed through their keeper’s pads with 18 seconds remaining. Tick…tick…tick…game.
Hallsy held us in through five short-handed situations. Yeoman work, Ryan.
Kristanovich, #5, played his first-ever game with the Hawks. From his D-position he made two rushes in the second period which had me checking my roster sheet. His speed and balance should have us Hawk fans trembling with anticipation.
Lady Luck will soon be wearing a Hawks’ jersey if this work ethic continues.
Time for the Twisters to have their streak ended.
