Road trip Excitement

Last night your Charleswood Hawks took on the Transcona Railer Express at the East End Arena. The Railers had won the last 3 outings between these 2 clubs but we hoped to change that last night.

The first 20 minutes was another great period of hockey by your Hawks, with the shots being 11-10 for your boys, but neither side was able to find the back of the net so we would head back to the locker room to regroup and get ready for more great hockey.

At 13:16 of the second frame, Max Gardiner would find twine on the power play with the assist from Austin Hesselbart. With just over a minute left in the period, the Railers would get one of their own to end 40 minutes of play in a 1-1 tie.

Transcona would get another one early in the 3rd period but less than a minute later, Max Fisher would answer back with an unassisted goal of his own to tie things up at 2 a piece so we needed extra time to determine the winner of this one.

At 1:10 in the the extra frame, Joben Smith – with the assist by Spencer Ferbers – would find the back of the net and end the game with a final score of 3-2!

Final shots on net were 43-30 in favor of your Hawks. Patrick Wiens stood tall for us between the pipes last night, turning away 28 of 30 shots which would give him a save percentage of .933 for the game.

It was another exciting game of hockey for your Charleswood Hawks and we look to take this momentum into our next game this coming Sunday as we head to Seven Oaks to take on the Raiders. The last match between the 2 clubs ended in an exciting overtime 4-3 win for your Hawks and we look to repeat the win on Sunday. It will be an afternoon event so puck drop will be at 2:30 – we hope to see you there to cheer on your Hawks!
