Sunday Night in Fort Garry

After an exciting win at home on Friday night, your Charleswood Hawks looked to get another 2 points as we headed out to Century arena to take on the Twins.

The first period saw some exciting hockey with the Twins out-shooting the Hawks 17-9, however neither team was able to get on the score sheet after 20 minutes of hockey.

Early in the 2nd period, at the 2:18 mark, Max McLean would get your Hawks on the board with the assists going to Skylar Tremblay and Ben Wicha. The Twins capitalized on some penalties that went against your boys as they would add 2 power play goals and one even strength goal to end 40 minutes of play with a score of 3-1 for the Twins.

The final frame had penalties go the other way though, and your Hawks took advantage of that twice as both Sean Robinson (assisted by Ben Wicha and Austin Hesselbart) and Max Gardiner (assisted by Mitch Justl and Austin Hesselbart) scored to bring your Hawks within one goal! In the dying minutes of the frame, we would pull the goalie to get the extra attacker on the ice in an attempt to tie things up, however the Twins would add an empty net goal to end the game with a final score of 5-3.

Patrick Wiens had the duty between the pipes for your Hawks, stopping 50 shots on net to give him a .926 save percentage in the game!

Your Charleswood Hawks now have a record of 8-9-4 on the season and now look to our next game this coming Friday. We’re back home this Friday night as we take on the Raiders who are on a 4 game winning streak, but we look to end that as this one promises to be another great match-up between these rivals. Puck drops at 7:30 at Eric Coy – hope to see you there.
