Tonight was quite a night Hawkey fans! Before the game commenced, Evan Duncan took a few moments to pay tribute to Wayne. This was followed by a moment of silence for our fallen Commander in Chief. Both the Hawks and Riels sported “WD” stickers on their helmets tonight in his honour. The scoring was opened by Dawson Braun of the Riels at 3:28 of the first period while on the PP. Our Hawks responded at 18:46 of the same period, as Joben Smith scored his first of the season. The second period saw only one goal, Matt Lawrence (also his first of the year) made it 2-1 Hawks at 14:54. There was a lot of action (& even a fight) in the third ! Jacob Tresoor made it a tie game at 11:21, only to have the game winner scored a minute and a half later by Kyle Nanton (another first) on the PP! Matt Lawrence and Joben Smith each got their second of the game later in the third to make it a 5-2 final! Shoutout to Joben and Kyle who had 4 and 3 point nights respectively – good work tonight gentlemen! Ryan Hall had another great night as he stopped 40 of the 42 shots he faced. Tonight was more than just a hockey game, it was about our Hawks family coming together. Wayne, we hoped you enjoyed the game tonight, it was a dandy – we’ve saved your spot at the Coy for whenever you look in on your boys.
