Hawks Derail Transcona, 4-1

In a rare Sunday afternoon matinee at Eric Coy your Charleswood Hawks avenged their defeat at the hands of the Railer Express a few weeks back at the MMJHL Showcase weekend with a 4-1 victory. The first period was a pretty back and forth even affair with no scoring and a couple of powerplays for both teams. Early into the second Spencer Ferbers was ejected for a check from behind, but the Hawks managed to kill the penalty and started to take the game to the Railer Express. Connor Shaw stood tall between the Transcona pipes stopping 19 Charleswood shots in the second. Captain Dylan Zeke finally broke the game open 4:27 into the third on an unassisted number and then a little over 4 minutes later J.P. Lovell added what would prove the be the game winner. The insurance marker came from Cam Petras who got off the schneid with his first of the year on a pass from Quinn Werbowski. The Railer Express scored late in the third and pulled the goalie, but Meyer Nell iced it with the empty netter with less than a minute remaining.

The win is the third in a row for the Hawks who push their record to 29-7-3 and remain 6 points back of the Raiders who knocked off the Twins in overtime on Sunday…Meyer Nell’s empty netter gives him points in his last 8 straight games…the boys are scheduled to take on the Fort Garry-Fort Rouge Twins on Friday at 7:30pm at the Coy…this should be a good battle as despite being in sixth place the Twins have kept 3 of their 4 losses Hawks to just a goal…so clear your schedules and come out ready to cheer on the red and black!
