The powerplay finally came to life on Saturday night as your Charleswood Hawks downed the River East Royal Knights 6-1 in a chippy affair. James Najduch notched his first of the year to open up the scoring midway through the first, which received a quick response by Michal Wojciechowski of the Knights. Despite being a tie game for most of the first period, the Hawks dominated play out shooting the Knights 17-6. J.P. Lovell struck late in the frame for what would be his first of three goals on the evening to give the Hawks a 2-1 lead. The second saw the start of the rough stuff that would put the Hawks on the powerplay 3 times and see them convert twice on it with goals by J.P. Lovell and Trevor Szyda. The dislike between these two teams finally came to a head in the third that came to a head when Quinn Werbowski dropped the mitts with Dag Sinclair for a spirited sparring session. Noah Robidoux closed out the scoring on the powerplay with his third goal in the last five games to seal the victory.
The win is the Hawks 12th straight, which equals them with the Raiders for the longest in the league this year whose own streak was ended by the Hawks to start this one. The boys are back in action closing out the MMJHL Showcase weekend at BellMTS IcePlex with a 6:45 battle tonight against the high scoring 3rd place Transcona Railer Express.
