There was certainly no love lost between these two bitter rivals on Friday night at the Coy.  In what proved to be a penalty filled affair the Charleswood Hawks held off the Fort Garry/Fort Rouge Twins with a tight 1-0 victory.  The Hawks peppered Twins goalie Mario Fiorentino all night finishing with a total of 41 shots.  At 17:44 of the second period Max Gardiner was finally able to beat the Twins goalie from the top of the circle with a nifty feed from Dylan Zeke that was set up by a hard fought rush up ice by defenseman Trevor Szyda.  The third brought an unrelenting attack by the Hawks that unleashed a number of shots on goal during the period.  However, the Twins gave the Hawks all they could handle in the dying minutes after pulling their goalie, but were unable to get the equalizer.  Ryan Hall gave the home team another excellent effort between the pipes with 30 stops to earn the shutout and first star of the game.  Rounding out the 3 stars were Shane Kustra-Nelson and the Twins Fiorentino.

The win sees the Hawks extend their season unbeaten streak to 6 games and maintain a share of the top of the MMJHL standings.  After a break for Thanksgiving, the Hawks make their way down Highway 75 on Tuesday night to the Morris Multiplex to tangle with the Pembina Valley Twisters for the first time this season.  Come join us with puck drop set for 7:30pm.
