If one more person makes a comment about what a difference 24 hours makes, I think I’ll scream. There is no doubt that this was a different Hawk’s team tonight than the imposters that skated on Sunday. It is probably a fair statement to say most of the attendants at both games know the answer as to why the vast difference and are quick to offer solutions. The more important question has to be if the players recognize and understand the possible consequences of their decision in preparing for a game. At the end of the day, it really is all about their approach to the games. NUFF said!
Lost in some of the rhetoric is the fact that a pretty good hockey game took place at the Coy. Like the previous three contests between these two contenders, this one was advertised to be a barn burner and both the Twisters and Hawks lived up to the marquee billing.  It was up and down, back and forth all night long. Hawk nemesis and Twister tender, Matt Kohlman once again brought his “A” game to the rink, thwarting numerous Hawk chances. Not to be out done, Hawk net minder Ben Thorlakson delivered an “A+” performance which not only gave him and his team mates the much needed two points but also earned him his league leading third shut out of the season.
The first period saw both goalies put on a clinic as neither team could light the lamp. Early in the second frame, Zach Heisinger would score the game’s first goal and eventual winner with assists going to Ryan Hutton and Shane Kustra-Nelson. Late in that same frame, Heisinger would pot his second of the game assisted by Mike Lorange and Shawn Pachet. The third period, despite great opportunities by both teams, would remain score less. Shots on goal were even at 31 apiece. Hawks were 0 for 3 on the PP and killed off both Twister PP’s.
Up next on the calendar is the MM’s Showcase Weekend at the MTS Ice Plex. Yours Hawks are scheduled to play the Stonewall Jets on Friday, Jan. 13th at 7:15 P.M. and their second game goes at 6:45 P.M. on Sunday, January 15th versus the St. Boniface Riels. Should be one heck of a weekend, hope to see you there!
