Game Night for Wayne

Our special evening in honor of Wayne Deschouwer is right around the corner and we couldn’t be more excited to show our appreciation for all the wonderful things he did for our organization and our community.

Please be sure to extend the invite to this special night to all family, friends and neighbors to come see his banner rise above us to the rafters. The on-ice ceremonies will begin at 7 pm and will be hosted by Kelly Moore. Everyone will be given a souvenir program to keep as part of this special night. Our thanks go to Dycom for making this possible. Wayne’s reach into our community and in the hockey world went much further than we will ever truly know, therefore we are anticipating a full house for the event, so please be sure to arrive early. It’ll be a dandy!

Friday Night Hockey

Friday night was a chance for your Charleswood Hawks to get back at Stonewall who handed them a loss the last time these 2 teams met. It was also the first night of the MMJHL Showcase, which brought the game to the Bell MTS IcePlex.

Early in the first, Stonewall would take a 1-0 lead with a power play goal. Your Hawks weren’t going to let up though, so both sides would head back to the dressing room to get ready for another period of hockey.

The second frame saw your Hawks outshoot the Jets 12-11 and as Stonewall got in some penalty trouble, Charleswood would capitalize on the opportunity to tie things up. At 14:55 Max Gardiner would tie the game with the assists from Spencer Ferbers and Mitch Justl.

The third frame was another evenly matched period of hockey that saw your Hawks outshoot the Jets 11-9, however neither side would find the back of the net, so more time would be needed to resolve this one.

Another 5 minutes of 3 on 3 hockey just wouldn’t be enough though as neither team was able to score so this one needed to go to a shootout!

Unfortunately the shootout would not go in favor of your Hawks. The final score would be 2-1 for Stonewall.

Be sure to join us tonight as we play another game at the MTS IcePlex as a part of the MMJHL Showcase. Your Charleswood Hawks take on the Riels tonight. The Hawks have a 2-1 lead on the season series and they look to increase that lead tonight. Puck drops at 6:45. We hope to see you there.

Home Again for One

Last night your Charleswood Hawks welcomed the Twisters to the Eric Coy for our first home game of the calendar year. Our last outing against the Twisters was a lopsided tilt so we hoped to correct that this time around.

At just 4:53 into the first period, Cam Petras would open the scoring with the assist from Zac Anseeuw. The Twisters would get into some penalty problems shortly after and Matt Lawrence would capitalize on it at the 7:31 mark of the frame. The assists went to Spencer Ferbers and Joben Smith. Pembina would get on the score sheet as well, ending the first period in a 2-1 lead for your Hawks.

The second period would favor the Twisters as they outshot us 19-9 and were also able to tie things up at 2 a piece.

In true Hawks fashion, there just wasn’t any quit in your boys though, as Max Gardiner – with the assist from Max Fisher and Tanner Mulligan – would put us up 3-2 at 6:33 in the the third frame.

With just 16 seconds left in the frame, the Twisters would fight to tie things up though, sending the game in OT. Just 16 seconds into the overtime, Pembina would score to end the game with a final score of 4-3.

Ryan Hall was on duty in net last night, stopping an impressive 40 shots for a save percentage of .909.

Although it wasn’t the result we were looking for, your Charleswood Hawks played a great game and we look to keep rolling as we head out on the road for the next 3 games. This Friday we head to Transcona to take on the Railer Express who are coming off a big win again the Canucks. Puck drop is at 8 pm. We hope to see you there to cheer on your Hawks!
