Friday Night in Charleswood

Friday night saw your Charleswood Hawks play host to the Raiders which always promises to be good hockey. The last 2 games between these 2 clubs have gone to overtime, both in favor of your Hawks, so we were hoping for the same outcome again.

While your Hawks out shot the Raiders in the first period, neither side was successful in finding the back of the net.

It wasn’t until late in the 2nd period that saw the Raiders get on the score sheet. That wouldn’t last too long though, as Sean Robinson would score at the 3:18 mark of the 3rd frame on a power play. The assists went to Spencer Ferbers and Austin Hesselbart. Unfortunately the score would remain tied at one a piece after 60 minutes of play so another period of OT would be needed to determine a winner for this one.

Austin Hesselbart would quickly ensure the W went to your Hawks as he find the back of the net at just 49 seconds into the extra frame. The assist would go to Spencer Ferbers.

Ryan Hall was in net, stopping 35 of 36 shots, earning him an impressive .972 save percentage.

The focus would now shift to Sunday afternoon as your Hawks would head over the bridge to face the Canucks who had lost their last 2 matches. We hope to see you there to cheer on your Charleswood Hawks!

Stonewall Shutout!

Sunday night saw your Charleswood Hawks host the Stonewall Jets in what would be the final regular season meet up between these 2 clubs. Stonewall was coming in to the Eric Coy having lost their last 4 games and your Hawks were looking for a rebound after a tough loss on Friday night.

The shot clock was certainly working hard in the first period as your Hawks would throw 15 shots at Stonewalls goalie. At the 11:18 mark of the first, Sean Robinson – with the assists by Dylan Hess and Spencer Ferbers – would get a shot past the goaltender to put your Hawks up by after 20 minutes.

The second period was a much more evenly matched shots on goal, however Ben Wicha – with assists from Austin Hesselbart and Joben Smith – would find the back of the net for his 5th of the year. The goal came at 19:23 of the period.

With your Hawks up 2-0 after 40 minutes of play, the 3rd frame promised to deliver some great hockey, and that is exactly what we got. At 14:13 of the frame, Joben Smith would get an unassisted goal! Just under 2 minutes later, Taylor Opperman would net a 4th goal for your Hawks with the assists by Nolan Sekundiak and Mitch Justl. The final score was 4-0 in favor of your Hawks.

Patrick Wiens took on the goaltending duties last night, turning away all 31 shots he faced last night, earning himself his first shutout of the season! Final shots would be 38-31 in favor of your Hawks.

Your Charleswood Hawks now sit 16-16-6 on the season and look to improve on that, as they host the Raiders this coming Friday, February 15th. Puck drops at 7:30 at the Eric Coy. We hope to see you all there!

Thank you

The Charleswood Hawks would like to express their deepest thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate Wayne Deschouwer last night, with the raising of his banner to the Eric Coy rafters. It was truly an amazing evening, that brought everyone together to remember a great man, who was so much more than just our President. We will never be able to fully express what Wayne meant to us, but raising his banner up at the rink that’s home to his Hawks, will ensure that generations to come will know how much he meant to the Charleswood Hawks and the community that surrounded him.

Once again, a sincere thank you to everyone for supporting this memorable evening. It was a night that will forever be in our hearts.

Go Hawks Go!
