St. Vital Sorrows

Sunday night the Charleswood Hawks played host to St Vital for the final time this regular season. 3 of the last 4 meetings have been decided by one goal so this one promised to be another great match up.

The Hawks were out shot in the 1st frame, 18-8, and the score sheet would reflect this as well as St. Vital would go up 2-0 after 20 minutes.

In true Hawks fashion, they would fight their way back with a fantastic 2nd period as Quinn Werbowski would score early in the frame, with the assists from Joben Smith and Taylor Opperman. At 17:53 Matt Lawrence, with the assists from Kyle Nanton and Joben Smith, would capitalize on a power play to tie the game up. With less than a minute left in the period, Taylor Opperman would put the Hawks up by one, with the assist from Joben Smith.

St Vital would tie the score again the 3rd frame on a power play, however Sean Robinson would get the lead back at 8:52 with assists from Spencer Ferbers and Mitch Justl. Unfortunately that is where things would get away from the Hawks as St. Vital would add 2 more goals to end the game with a 5-4 final score in favor of St. Vital.

The next game for your Charleswood Hawks will be this coming Wednesday March 6th against Pembina Valley. This is the re-scheduled game from February 24th. Puck drops at 8 pm at the Morris Recreation Complex. We hope to see you there to cheer on your boys!

Royal Knights Wrap Up

The Hawks were looking for a bounce back win on Friday night when they hosted the Royal Knights and what a bounce back it was. This would be the last meeting between these 2 teams and the Hawks were looking to sweep the season series.

The Knights would open up the scoring in the first, however Matt Lawrence and Quinn Werbowski would score just over 30 seconds apart from one another to go up 2-1. Spencer Ferbers would assist on both goals, while Austin Hesselbart would assist on the 2nd goal.

The 2nd period was an exchange of goals between the 2 teams as River East would score 2 in the first half of the frame, before Taylor Opperman would tie things up at 3 a piece at 8:52. The assist would go to Joben Smith. Just under 2 minutes later, the Knights would go up by one again, however Tanner Mulligan would score 2 goals just 11 seconds apart to give the Hawks the lead! The 2nd goal would prove to be the game winner as well.

Austin Hesselbart would find the back of the net early in the 3rd, with the assist from Spencer Ferbers and Quinn Werbowski. At 11:14 of the frame, Taylor Opperman would get an unassisted goal for his 2nd of the night!

The final score would be 7-4 with shots on goal going in favor of the Hawks at 42-27. The focus would now shift to Sunday evening as your Hawks host St. Vital for their final match up of the regular season. Puck drop is 7:30. We hope to see you there to cheer on your Charleswood Hawks!

Hawks Derailed

Friday night your Charleswood Hawks hosted the Transcona Railer Express. This would be the last regular season meeting between the clubs and with Transcona having won the previous meetings, your Hawks were looking to turn this meeting into a W at home.

Things went back and forth in the first as Railers would open up the scoring early, however Sean Robinson would tie it up with an unassisted power play goal of his own. Just 21 seconds later, Transcona would take back the lead. With just 9 seconds left in the period, Spencer Ferbers would tie it up again with the assist from Matt Lawrence! We’d head back to the dressing room tied at 2, with the promise of another great period of hockey on the way.

The Railers would find the back of our net early in the 2nd, but at 6:39 of the frame, Sean Robinson would get another unassisted goal for his 2nd of the game! So after 40 minutes of play, things were all tied up again at 3 a piece.

Unfortunately that is where the scoring would end for your Hawks and Transcona would add another 3 tallies onto their score to take a 6-3 win for this game.

We’ll shift our focus to Sunday nights game now as we head out to Morris to take on the Pembina Valley Twisters. Puck drops at 7pm. We hope to see you there to cheer on your Charleswood Hawks!
