Hawks Soar Over Jets

Friday night your Charleswood Hawks welcomed the Stonewall Jets for the second meeting of the season between the clubs. Stonewall was coming off an exciting overtime win against Transcona earlier in the week but your Hawks were looking to rebound after our own overtime loss against the Canucks.

Austin Hesselbart opened up the scoring at the 10:27 mark of the first with a power play goal – assisted by Matt Lawrence and Joben Smith

Max Fisher, with the assist from Cam Petraswould also find the back of the net with just over 2 minutes left in the first, giving your Hawks a 2-0 lead after just 20 minutes of play!

The second period saw Stonewall get on the board as well, however Patrick Wiens was great in front of the net, stopping 19 shots in the 2nd frame alone.

The final 20 minutes was another great period of hockey by your Charleswood Hawks, with Ben Wicha adding an empty net goal with just 4 seconds left in the game making the final score 3-1! Final shots on net were 37-29 in favor of Stonewall.

With this season series with Stonewall tied at one a piece, your Hawks turned their sights to Fort Garry now as we head to Century Arena for another tilt against the Twins. It promised to be another dandy of a game!

That’s 3!

The 2nd period saw more action from Austin Hesselbart as he got an unassisted goal at the 10:49 mark of the period to put your Hawks up 2-1 after 40.

The final frame saw quite a bit of action as the Riels tied things up early in the period however your Hawks would take the lead once again as Joben Smithwith the help of Kyle Nanton scored at the 8:21 mark for his 9th of the season. The Riels would tie it up again just a few minutes later but we weren’t done yet. It’s a short break as we head to St James to take on the Canucks who have a 2-0 lead on the season series and our boys are looking to get a win to extend our winning streak to 4. It’s an earlier start tonight as the puck drops at 6:30. Come join us to cheer on your Hawks – it’ll be a dandy!

Weathering The Storm

Sunday afternoon brought the Pembina Valley Twisters to the Coy for a rare matinee game.  The Twisters were coming off a 4-1 victory over the Riels and your Hawks were looking to rebound from a string of losses.

The Twisters got on the score sheet quickly in the 1st period, putting up 3 goals in the first 20 minutes.  They would add another goal in the 2nd, putting them up 4-0 after 40 minutes of play.

Pembina Valley would add a 5th goal early in the 3rd period, putting them up 5-0.  Your Hawks wouldn’t go down without a fight though and Austin Hesselbart found the back of the net at 8:23 into the 3rd on a power play for his 2nd of the season!   Just 10 minutes later, Max Fisher scored for his second of the season as well.  Joben Smith and Kyle Nanton assisted on both goals – well done boys!

Unfortunately, it just wouldn’t be enough as the game ended with a final score of 5-2 in favor of the Twisters.  Patrick Wiens took care of the goal-tending duties, stopping  an amazing 50 of 55 shots!

Our next game takes us to St. Vital to take on the Victorias, who are coming off a 4-2 loss to St. James.  Puck drops at 7:30 at St. Vital Centennial Arena. Hope to see you there – it’ll be a dandy!
